STEP 1 – Create a new workbook with a conference budget worksheet

Create  new workbook using MS Excel. The first worksheet should be named “Budget” and include the total estimated costs of travel by day.

Create  Excel workbook with a Budget worksheet that contains the anticipated expenses for each day you will be traveling and attending The Next Web conference in Amsterdam. The workbook will be presented to your supervisor with your Word document to obtain permission and funding for the trip. Use the internet and the travel expense allowance amounts provided to determine the costs of attending the conference. The budget must include the cost of flight/mileage, hotel, meals, and registration fee. Please add a descriptive title to each worksheet and include descriptive row and column headings for all cell values.

Each expense should be listed separately
Use MS Excel formulas and functions to perform all mathematical calculations

Transportation costs
To determine the transportation costs, check flight rates through travel and airline sites such as Orbitz, Priceline, Travelocity, Cheap Tickets, Expedia, Southwest Airlines, Delta, etc. You want to compare flight costs at CVG, Indianapolis (IND), Dayton (DAY), and Columbus (CMH). Please be sure to consider baggage costs, transportation to and from the airport, and/or airport parking. Your company’s mileage reimbursement rate is $.50 per mile.

If you prefer to drive, determine the distance from your home to the hotel and back and estimate the expense at $.50 per mile.

Hotel costs
Search for a hotel near the conference site. Enter the hotel cost by day for each night you will be attending the conference.

Meals
Your company per diem rate for meals and incidentals is $69 per day for travel in the continental United States and $74 per day for international travel  Enter the daily meal costs for each day you will be traveling.

Registration Fee
Enter the cost to attend the conference at a daily rate in US currency. For example, if the registration cost is 50 euros and you are attending 2 days of the conference, the daily rate is 25 euros (50/2) or $27.91 US Dollars each day.

Average Daily Expenses

Calculate the average total expense by day. Do not include the airfare or mileage expense for traveling to and from the conference site. Your company has a daily expense allowance of $300 per day.
Over/Under Budget Daily Expenses
Use the IF function to display “Under Budget” or “Over Budget” under the Total Daily Expenses (without travel) to indicate whether the daily expense total is above or below the $300 daily allowance.
