Judging Research Quality

Research quality provides evidence that the study is ethical, valid and can be used to further the study area. Research quality is vital to me as I embark on my research journey. Creating high-quality research involves using valid information that convinces the reader that the study is critical and has the potential to advance understanding in the subject area (Aarssen et al., 2010). Quality research is valued and taken seriously by scholars and professionals. Quality research results can advance knowledge in the subject area and create change that can positively impact others.

Critical Components

Quantitative research involves the reliability or accuracy of the instrument and validity, which involves the topic being accurately measured to advance our understanding of the quality of the study (Heale & Twycross, 2015). Quantitative research produces results that involved numerical data (Saunders et al., 2019). Quality quantitative research must provide data that is accurate because further research depends on its accuracy. Qualitative research assesses credibility, dependability, and trust (Morse, 2015). Qualitative research is based on human experience and behavior (Saunders et al., 2019). Studying human behavior and experience requires interpersonal relationships and trust is an essential component to this type of research. These are all critical components for researchers to assess during their research study process. These components can influence the reader’s decision to implement the study’s results and further positive change.

Ensuring Doctoral Research to Promote Social Change

Advancing positive social change is one main reason scholars research specific topics. The implications of the conclusions of my study will one day advance knowledge and practice in the topic area. The researcher is responsible for ensuring that the process is valid, reliable, and has integrity. As I embark on completing a qualitative research study, I will focus on being engaged and persistent in the participant interviews. Prolonged engagement and observations yield more accurate data and knowledge (Morse, 2015). In my study, the time invested in the interview process will establish trust between the participants and myself. Trust can lend itself to participants sharing vital information that can add to the study.

In addition, I will avoid convert research. Convert research is done without the participant knowing it is happening (Saunders et al., 2019). Although observations can provide the researcher with knowledge, the participant’s privacy must not be compromised. Another area I will focus my attention on is the role of unintentional personal bias. My research topic has some connection to my professional career. I will utilize the writing center in addition to peer reviews to avoid bias that could affect the results of my research study.
