Describe the central role theory plays in deductive reasoning when conducting quantitative business research.
Central role theory is a theory that explains how people make sense of the world by organizing their experiences into mental models or schemas (Bhandari, 2023). It is a deductive approach where researchers start with a general theory and then test it using empirical data. Moreover, it is a kind of reason whereby the truth of the input proposition, also known as premises, logically guarantees the authenticity of the fact, also known as the conclusion of the matter (Bhandari, 2023). According to Saunders et al. (2019), deductive reasoning happens in a six-step process where one would develop an aspect, infer a testable recommendation, ensure what is being examined makes sense, culminate the information regarding the variables, and examine the results for failure or acceptance. Researchers will seek to get as close to the “truth” as possible, value objectivity, and seek generalizable results.
Explain the critical relationship between the theory, specific business problem, purpose statement, and research question for a DBA applied Doctoral Study.
In a DBA applied Doctoral Study, the theory is the foundation of the research study. The specific business problem is identified, and then the purpose statement is developed to address the problem (Huisman & Tight, 2021). The research questions are then identified as tied to the purpose and, when answered, shed light on the problem. The problem, purpose, and research questions are the building blocks of your study; they are intrinsically tied together and the basis from which everything else develops (Huisman & Tight, 2021). The theory provides a framework for understanding the problem and guides the development of research questions. It also helps to identify variables that could be manipulated to solve an existing business problem (Huisman & Tight, 2021).
Provide at least one example from your own DBA doctoral research that illustrates the impact of theory on the development of an applied Doctoral Study.
The importance of theory-driven thinking and acting is emphasized in relation to the selection of a topic, the development of research questions, the conceptualization of the literature review, the design approach, and the analysis plan for the dissertation study (Huisman & Tight, 2021). For my doctoral study I am looking to identify strategies that will lower while improving employee turnover rates. I will use data conducted from research and interviews to understand the relationship between bank managers and employee turnover rates. My efforts will hopefully in return discover several strategies that can be used to reduce the employee turnover rate, which is the foundation for my specific and general business problem.
