My Response: Despite progress made in the past decade, women continue to be underrepresented in leadership positions across various industries (2014). This lack of representation affects organizational performance, employee satisfaction, and the overall success of businesses. The general business problem related to the topic of “Women in Leadership Positions” is the persistent underrepresentation of women in senior leadership roles in many organizations. This problem not only affects women’s career opportunities but also has broader implications for organizational effectiveness.

 

2. Now that you have read and summarized recent literature, what meaningful specific business problem have you identified that your study will address?

My Response: Women have made significant progress in the workplace, but they remain underrepresented in leadership positions across many industries and organizations. 

 

Research has shown that gender-diverse leadership teams are associated with better business outcomes, including increased innovation, improved financial performance, and better decision-making. However, the persistent gender gap in leadership roles continues to be a major business problem.

 

The specific business problem this study aims to address is the underrepresentation of women in leadership positions in the technology industry. The technology industry is known for its male-dominated culture, which has led to a lack of gender diversity in leadership positions. By addressing this problem, organizations can tap into a wider pool of talent, enhance their decision-making processes, and improve their overall performance and competitiveness in the market.

My response: The purpose of a study is to investigate the factors that contribute to the underrepresentation of women in leadership roles and to identify strategies to promote gender equity in leadership positions. The study may examine the impact of societal and organizational barriers, such as bias in selection and promotion processes, lack of support for work-family balance, and cultural norms and expectations that perpetuate gender stereotypes. It may also investigate the effects of interventions aimed at promoting diversity and inclusion in leadership, such as mentoring programs, diversity training, and flexible work arrangements. Ultimately, the goal of the study is to contribute to the development of evidence-based solutions to increase the representation of women in leadership positions and to promote gender equity in the workplace.
