I am working on a short paper that is due this evening. But…

I am working on a short paper that is due this evening. But although I have selected a topic which is ” The History of Cultural Hybridization and Fusion,” I will need a thesis but with this topic from a humanities lens is broad. How can I narrow this down? I tried to upload my document but it did not work after I received a reply so I posted it below.

Globalization is generally viewed through the prism of economics, but the phenomenon is much more complex and incorporates several important economic, political, and sociocultural processes.

As the world becomes more globalized, it influences the relationships between countries worldwide. Many aspects of human activity are affected by it, including education, policy, management, art, and culture. People’s worldviews and mentalities are changing rapidly due to several factors, but it is essential to remember that it is not a single process. As a result of cultural hybridization and evolution, new ideas and perspectives are created in modern society by blending cultures, combining their most outstanding elements, and creating a new entity with differing properties. Cultural fusion because of globalization has also given rise to a multitude of economic, political, and cultural initiatives that connect nations all over the world, offering a unique opportunity for each state to taste a foreign culture while creating a unique experience for everyone.

Therefore, I chose the globalization process of cultural hybridization and fusion as my assignment topic. The topic interests me because I am an Asian American who grew up at Clark AFB in the Philippines until I was ten. Due to globalization, I have experienced and witnessed cultural hybridization and fusion since arriving in the U.S. forty-three years ago.

History Lens

As far as the historical lens is concerned, I will discuss the early forms of cultural hybridization and fusion resulting from globalization. For example, when commercialized urban centers were centered around the axis of Greek culture throughout a range stretching from India to Spain, with such cities as Alexandria, Athens, and Antioch at their center, an early form of global economics and culture was known as archaic globalization. (A History of Globalization since the Ancient World, 2021) As a result of extensive research, I plan to provide important dates and facts regarding how globalization contributed to cultural hybridization and fusion.

Humanities Lens

I intend to examine and discuss how culture has been hybridized and fused because of globalization through the humanities lens. According to Britannica, globalization of culture is the process by which standardization of cultural expressions occurs worldwide due to the diffusion of commodities and ideas. Globalization is considered a trend towards homogeneity, bringing human experiences together essentially everywhere due to wireless communication, electronic commerce, popular culture, and international travel. (Watson, 2017) In an article on cultural fusion theory, newcomers integrate into the dominant culture while maintaining elements of their minority culture. At the same time, the dominant culture integrates aspects of the newcomer’s culture into it to create an intercultural identity fused together. (Croucher & Kramer, 2016)

Natural and Applied Science Lens

The method of globalization on cultural hybridization and fusion would be extensively researched from the natural and applied science perspectives. When applying this lens, I will comprehensively examine the Globalization and Cultural Hybridity and Homogeneity research material I found during my research on this topic. (Globalization & Cultural Hybridity or Homogeneity | Researchomatic, n.d.) I will also include how the topic relates to the physical and material world in terms of the fusion of products and other elements of one culture into another culture worldwide.

Social Science Lens

I will analyze how cultural hybridization and fusions have influenced communities and individuals from the perspective of the social science lens concerned with society and how people act and are influenced by their environment. Through extensive research on the topic, I will examine the positive and negative aspects of how cultural hybridization and fusion have affected individuals’ and community’s behaviors worldwide. I will also discuss how people adapt and change because of cultural hybridization and fusions due to globalization.
