History helps us recognize patterns, trends, and the impact of technological advancements over time. It allows us to trace the evolution of technology, understand its societal implications, and identify recurring themes or challenges that emerge with innovations. By examining the past, we can gain insights into how technology has shaped society, influenced cultural norms, and brought about significant changes in various fields.When considering a current event involving technology in the news with a historical counterpart, looking through the historical lens helps us connect and analyze the present and past events. For example, the rise of social media platforms like Facebook and their impact on privacy concerns can be connected to historical events such as the development of the internet and the advent of personal computing. By examining historical precedents, such as the controversies surrounding early internet privacy in the 1990s, we can draw parallels and better understand the challenges and implications of today’s privacy concerns in the age of social media. This historical perspective allows us to evaluate the progress made, assess the ethical and societal dimensions, and inform discussions and decisions about the responsible use of technology. Peer1: When we think about technology, we generally think about electronics and other modern technologies, but anything that improves and eases peoples’ lives is considered technology. History tells us where and why we were somewhere, but when you consider technology during certain time periods, it will tell us how we got there. For instance, air travel is one of the safest and fastest forms of travel, but it first started with the Wright Brothers in North Carolina whose first flight lasted 12 seconds. Developing technologies help shape our lives by changing systems that are previously established. Before airplanes, people traveled by horse, boat, or by foot, but air travel helped make travel faster and safer. Technology influences almost everything in our lives, in the past and the present. In the past few decades climate change has become a bigger discussion within the government and industries, and the electric car has been emerging for the past century. The invention of the electric car was born from the concern of gas shortages in the early 1900’s and has continued to evolve in the name of preserving the planet. Looking at the invention of electric cars through a historic lens allows us to study what was happening in the news or culture in order for this technology to be born. Studying the connection between technology, history, and culture can influence the trends of graphic design and other forms of media. Changes in trends such as design, clothing, and media are typically cyclic and will repeat after a few years and continuing to study our history can help predict these changing trends and get ahead of them. This can be beneficial in the design field because if you can predict the next trend, you have an advantage against your competitors and may have the first wave of consumers.BusinessBusiness – Other
