“Representing your values in your community and day-to-day life is a great way to not only make a difference in your community but also lead others in a positive way. A person who is strong in their values and morals is attractive to many people and also makes you a more trustworthy person. Many times organizations gain trust in this way because they not only speak on their standards but also act and make decisions in a way that supports their values. They do th-is by sponsoring ethical organizations and organizing charitable events to support the values they stand for. The trust in these organizations becomes damaged when the organization acts in a way that does not align with the values that they had originally stood for.

One company that acts in a socially responsible way that I really appreciate is Patagonia. Patagonia is an outdoor clothing and gear company that gives back to environmental organizations that are working to better the environment globally. Toms is another company that has a great reputation for being socially responsible. The company was formed with the motto of every pair of shoes purchased a pair is donated. Both of these brands have a great reputation and have earned the trust of the community around them as well as globally.

Volkswagen is the first company that comes to mind when thinking about companies that are known for being socially irresponsible with the impact they have on the community around them. Volkswagon is a very large organization known for being one of the largest mae manufacturing companies in the world, it claims to care for the environment but has been found to cheat emissions tests on many occasions with its vehicles. This resulted in their vehicles releasing more carbon dioxide when running, which did not show on tests, due to them cheating the initial tests (Jacobs & Kalbers, 2019).”

In addition, here is the original question for further reference.

Successful companies try to maintain a positive relationship in the community in which they do business. In the textbook, How You Play the Game: Lessons for Life from the Billion-Dollar Business of Sports, Colangelo explains that representing your core values in the community wins loyalty to your brand and attracts new customers. Entrepreneurs should remember that part of a company’s stewardship includes socially responsible actions in the community.

In what ways do organizations gain trust and show they are socially responsible stewards? How is trust lost and reputation damaged? Discuss examples of companies that are socially responsible and have earned the trust of the community. Conversely, discuss other companies that have lost the trust of communities and damaged their reputations through social irresponsibility. What will you do to ensure that your organization maintains a positive reputation in the community?
