“When researching databases for quantitative and qualitative resources that are scholarly there are a few qualities that I review before citing the sources in an education or informative setting. The first database that would be the most reliable would be GCU’s Library where there are journal articles and books that are known to be reputable and adequate to use for scholarly research. In addition to the GCU Library there are other databases that can be used such as Academic Search Complete, Omnifile Full Text Selection, and ProQuest Central (Grand Canyon University, 2014). The last way to identify reputable resources online is through scholarly articles, peer-reviewed articles, and empirical articles. These resources can come from various different sites online which can be found under the domains of .org, .gov., or .edu although finding these resources should be researched to make sure that it is a credible source.

It is important to critical analyze resources because it will “enhance your literature search experience”, “provide a deeper analysis of the validity of the data, methodology, and results of the literature”, and  to be able to think critically on the material being analyzed (Grand Canyon University, 2014). When examining credible resources, it is important to note if the source, author, or publisher is credible and if the information that is being represented is reliable and accurate, objective, and provides relevant data and conclusions. This framework will help to analyze resources critically to provide an efficient academic research.

Scholarly resources is defined as being “written with a focus on a specific subject discipline and usually written by an expert in the same subject field” with a focus on informing while news media such as newspapers and magazines are written for general audiences and consumption (Grand Canyon University, n.d. & Grand Canyon University, 2014). When doing research, both resources are valuable to utilize. When conducting a comprehensive research that is focused on research in a certain subject or topic and can be used to represent a researchers’ findings based on their research, scholarly resources would be the best resource to use. When representing information that is used to entertain and promote certain products or topics, news media would be the best resource to use in research.”
