A medical equipment manufacturer based out of Ottawa, ONT. plans to fill the position of Communications & Public Relations Director. The HR Director of the medical equipment manufacturer has issued request for proposals (RFPs) to Executive Search Consultants with established track record filling positions in the medical field.

Your firm is an established Executive Search Consultants and has been invited to submit a bid in the form of a 12 minute long recorded presentation explaining why your firm should be awarded the job. If selected, your firm will be tasked with searching and identifying three (3) suitably qualified candidates within 3 months. In doing so, you are to:

1.      Develop a profile of the ideal candidate by identifying up to 5 selection criteria (KSAOs).

2.      Establish a Recruitment Plan — specifying your targeted applicant pool, recruitment method/s, timeline and other relevant factors.

3.      Develop a Screening/Selection Strategy — outlining the combination of screening and selection tools/methods you plan to use — detailing how, why and timeline.

4.      Explain the basis of your selection decision in making your recommendation for your top three candidates.

5.      Conclude by highlighting the merits of your proposal.

Team Project – Recorded Presentation (20%)

§  Students are expected to work in assigned teams of 4.
 

 

§  Each team will submit a 12 minute recorded presentation, supported by between 10 – 12 MS ppt. slides(excluding a title and reference slide). There’s no requirement to submit a project paper.

§  To avoid cluttering up the slides with too much data, use the notes section below the slides to simulate the “oral” component of the project.

§  Each student must take an active part (i.e. speaking/coordinating), and make approximately equal contribution to developing the contents and the team presentation. 

§  Deadline for this assignment is Week 10, Sept 8th to be submitted through Turnitin. A member from the team will make the submission on behalf of the team.

JOB DESCRIPTION

In search of a Communications and Public Relations Director

A Canadian-based medical equipment manufacturer, with a sizable share of the international market, seeks to fill a new position of Communications & Public Relations Director. This person will be responsible for both internal and external communications, including producing corporate newsletters, communicating with the press in public relations functions, coaching senior officers on ways to improve their presentation skills, communicating corporate directions (mission, vision statements) and policies to employees, and soliciting news from employees for reporting in corporate newsletters to enhance cohesiveness and shaping of the corporate culture.

The job requirements developed from a job analysis are: 

§  Fluent in both written and spoken French and English; 

§  Excel in oral and written communication skills; 

§  Competent in social media marketing

§  Strong relationship building skills with public officials and the media

§  Competent to handle interdepartmental or interpersonal conflict effectively and remain calm under pressure; 

§  Proven ability to plan, organize, coordinate and work under tight timelines with conflicting demands; 

§  Able to solicit information and cooperation from others and overcome obstacles; 

§  Demonstrated ability to present relatively complex subject in easily understandable manner 

§  Able to coach senior officers to improve their communication and presentation skills;
