Understanding the Research Process

Scholarly knowledge is essential in the doctoral research process. Knowledge allows scholars to make informed choices, including our research philosophy, research direction, and strategy (Saunders et al., 2019). This course has prepared scholars for the next steps in the doctoral journey.

Influence of this Course on Doctoral Process

This course has allowed me to learn about quantitative and qualitative research methodology. The process of learning the methodologies has allowed me to frame my research. Learning from this course has built my frame for my research topic. Exploring the differences between methodology, research design, and data collection helped me understand my research topic trajectory (Walden University Office of Research and Doctoral Services, 2019). When I began this course, this concept needed to be clarified, leading to a misalignment research topic. Alignment is essential for the academic design and advancement of the research topic (Clement et al., 2020). This course has educated me to align my methodology, design, and data collection to create a decisive research question.

Areas of Weakness

In the doctoral journey, there will be many areas that I will need to strengthen to complete my research. One particular area that is a challenge for me is making synthesis. Synthesis is using many ideas from research to form one theory (Walden University Office of Research and Doctoral Services, 2019). The doctoral study process requires the scholar to use multiple sources to support their topic. The sources are often vast and full of vital knowledge about the study. I need to continue to focus on learning the art of synthesis. I plan to use Walden Writing Center and other resources to help with this process.

In addition to synthesis, I will continue working on the APA format and the mechanics of doctoral writing. Knowledgeable, precise, scholarly writing will be vital to create a robust research study. I will use the resources that Walden University offers to students to enhance their writing.

Opportunities to promote social change

Social change involves a process that enhances the development of individuals, communities, organizations, and cultures (Walden University, LLC., 2016c). The research topic I am choosing has impactful opportunities to inform nonprofit leaders of strategies other organizations have used to retain quality employees. This study’s results may increase employee retention, enhancing agency stability. Nonprofit agencies deliver essential services that impact the lives of those in our communities (Stater & Stater, 2019). The implications of this social change can improve community economic stability and contribute to community wellness.

Further Questions

-At what point in our doctoral journey should we be started the process of finding our chair? I have read for the weeks ahead in this course, and it happens during this course. Does anyone have advice about this process?

-Other than reading and writing as much as possible, are there any other strategies to be the most effective in completing our studies?
