What are the potential benefits and drawbacks of doing so?1) Among the largest positives for the “Amazon effect”  is speed and convenience. Consumers can search vast amounts of products, compare prices and read reviews. Consumers have the ability to become “experts” on products simply be reading hundreds of reviews, should they choose to. Often this leads to getting a better price for items as you have increased visibility on different seller sources. The convenience factor alone of them delivering it right to your front door is huge. However, these positives also come with some negatives. Not being able to physically see and inspect something before purchasing can increase the amount of returns and effort and resources that is entailed with that.  Another negative to this effect is the impact it has on local brick and mortar stores. I’ve seen multiple local Malls go out of business due to the new wave of online shopping.Ultimately I believe consumers do share some responsibility in who they buy from. I also believe that the speed and convenience of Amazon and Walmart can make consumers turn a blind eye to this. It’s easy to not care about low wages or poor work conditions when my brand new pair of pants shows up at my door 2 days after ordering. If we do not agree with such practices then we should sway them with our buying power.  However, it is still very much the responsibility of the company to make these ethical efforts. Simply because we support them, doesn’t mean we are fully responsible.  2) On the positive side, customers appreciate the convenience that Amazon offers. Shopping online solves the need to go to stores and use time in order to find the products they need. On the other hand, there are some drawbacks to using Amazon. Customers may not enjoy the lack of a personalized shopping experience that traditional stores offer. Services like free return shipping and customer service are sometimes limited. There can also be issues with delivery delays, compatibility between devices, and product quality. As ethical concerns become increasingly prevalent in business today, it’s important to understand who holds the responsibility for unethical practices. Businesses can only do so much to ensure ethical practices are enforced. It’s their responsibility to create fair employment conditions and reduce their environmental footprint, but businesses often rely on customers to make ethical decisions when they shop. Through their purchasing power, customers hold the potential to action large-scale change. On the flip side, if customers continue to opt for less ethical brands, they are supporting and indirectly promoting unethical business practices. On the whole, it’s clear that businesses and customers have separate but shared responsibilities when it comes to enforcing ethical practices. Consumers’ purchasing habits have a direct effect on what businesses will respond to and with what products, so it’s important for all of us to be conscious of the brands and products we choose and be mindful of our personal impact.BusinessBusiness – Other
