POSTING

Describe how you would align your current thinking and potential quantitative research approach with the integrative model. Does this approach make sense for your Doctoral Study? Why or why not?

Corner’s integrative model presents a simplified process of conducting quantitative research. In my Doctoral research, I intend to determine the digitalization strategies that supply chain managers use to enhance the flow of goods. Therefore, I can utilize the integrative model to align my research with a more quantitative approach by evaluating the impact of supply chain digitalization on the flow of goods. The process will require formulating hypotheses, determining the measures, selecting the analysis technique, and collecting the data (Corner, 2002). However, this approach does entirely make sense for my Doctoral Study since it is a qualitative study.

Explain the aspects of your interests that would benefit from an integrative approach, as well as any areas where your process might diverge. Devote special attention to the portions of the model that particularly apply to quantitative research.

While the integrative approach is not directly linked to my qualitative study, I believe building knowledge, developing measures, and planning data collection would help my research interests. Building knowledge would be useful in understanding research phenomena and developing research questions (Corner, 2002). Further, it would benefit me to assign measures to my constructs, such as digital technologies and the flow of goods. However, since my research is qualitative, my research process would diverge to formulating interview questions instead of hypotheses (Bougie & Sekaran, 2019). Also, according to Corner (2002), researchers assign numerical measures which must align with analytical techniques such as correlation and regression analysis, which is not the intention of my study.

Identify which two of the proposed exercises from Corner (2002) would be most beneficial to you and why. If you wish, you may choose to attempt the exercises and describe the results in your posting.

Therefore, I think exercise #1 – Building Knowledge and exercise #5 – Planning data collection of the integrative model would be the most beneficial in my study. The first step sheds light on the researcher’s process to develop general research questions, informed by brainstorming the broad areas of interest in each phenomenon (Corner, 2002). Through this exercise, I can determine the specific research questions relating to the digitalization of the supply chain and its impact on the flow of goods. It will also contribute to developing the conceptual framework for the study. Exercise 5 will help prepare for data collection by selecting the most suitable sample for the research and the relevant data collection techniques. According to Cash et al. (2022), data sampling is essential for independent research because it enhances the validity and reliability of the research by selecting a sample representative of the population or research phenomenon.
